Kenya-Uganda pipeline: Kenyatta manages to bring Museveni and the oil companies round to his choice

The Kenyan and Ugandan governments have been at loggerheads for several months over the choice of route to be taken by the future pipeline to carry the two countries' crude oil for export. After stormy discussions, Total, Tullow Oil, Africa Oil and CNOOC managed to convince Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to opt for Mombasa as the terminal. However Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has always preferred the port of Lamu under construction for the pipeline's landing point, finally won the day. The oil companies fear attacks by Al-Shabaab radical Islamists, as Lamu is near the Somalia border.
