This report has been prepared by Heztech Engineering Services in 2012 to enable the Ministry of Transport to acquire an Environmental Impact Assessment license from the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) prior to construction of the proposed first three berths of the Lamu Port and the associated infrastructure. The feasibility study carried out by the Japan Port Consultants Ltd in 2010 stated that the Lamu port development will have extensive and irreversible environmental, social, and cultural impacts on what is a unique and culturally sensitive area.
